I think everyone

Who lives in big cities

Is a little bit sadder

Because they can’t see the stars

The lights block out everything, and we see buildings and cars and people everywhere, and look up at grey skies and smoke.

There is something magical

About things like the sky

With it’s millions of untapped universes

That make everything else seem quiet and untouched

We forget about them, heads down in the evening, trudging through snow to little boxes in the sky

We forget that we are finite things

That we only have moments

There was a time, a bunch of years ago

Where all the city lights went out

And the sky exploded

Just for a night

And I can’t help thinking that should happen more often

Because seeing the world is spectacular compared to city lights.
